A ROAD TRAFFIC SIMULATOR EMPLOYING MICROPROCESSORS

The article considers the use of microprocessors instead of a special-purpose hardware simulator at UMIST to represent the behaviour of each of a set of road-traffic intersections. A modular technique is used in which a microprocessor simulates the performance of each intersection in a traffic network with a further microprocessor as an overall controller. Details are given of the design and implementation of initial tests carried out to ensure correct working of each intersection element. /TRRL/
