THE INFLUENCE OF THE GEOMETRY OF DEFORMED STEEL BARS ON THEIR BOND STRENGTH IN CONCRETE

The influence of the magnitude of the slope of the lugs of deformed bars on their bond strength was investigated using two different 16 mm dia bars. Twelve tests were carried out with each bar and the results subjected to statistical analysis. The angles of slope of the lugs - 48.5 deg and 57.8 deg - did not affect the maximum bond stress because the bar with the greater slope was modified by crushed concrete wedges (truncated cones) in the lug fillet which effectively reduced the lug angle to the smaller value.(a) /TRRL/
