IMPROVING URBAN TRAFFIC THROUGH TRUCK-ORIENTED MEASURES

The article discusses the state of the art of what is known about the effects of trucks on urban traffic. It appears that congestion due to trucks loading and unloading at curbside in central business districts has the most severe impact. Several areas of research to be investigated under the Metropolitan Multimodal Traffic Management project are outlined.
