OPS Bersepadu conducted during Hari Raya Aidilfitri Year 2015: towards the aberrant behaviour among road users

The number of road crashes is well known to be at the highest during festive seasons in Malaysia. This is due to the high volume of vehicles on the road during the festive seasons may increase the risk of road crashes to occurred. Malaysia government has put efforts to reduce the number of accidents during the festive season and one of the most famous programmes is OPS Selamat. Aberrant behaviour among the road users is one of the indicators to measure the effectiveness of OPS Selamat during the festive season. The main objective of this study is to determine the road users’ aberrant behaviour towards the increase in traffic law enforcement through OPS Selamat. The research is conducted using semi-quantitative approach to measuring the aberrant behaviour during Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2015. In total six hundred (600) respondents have participated in this study. The result showed there was a slight reduction (Mean = -0.172) in aberrant behaviour among motorcyclist whereas motorist reported an increased in aberrant behaviour (Mean = 0.1317) during OPS Raya 2015. There were no significant differences between before and during OPS period among motorist and motorcyclist. In terms of enforcement activities reported by the respondents, motorist shows a different significant invisibility of enforcement before and during OPS period. However, the result was not statistically significant for a motorcyclist that also perceived higher visibility of enforcement activities.
