Who Rides Public Transportation
This summary of passenger characteristics of domestic United States public transit users was compiled from 211 separate passenger survey reports representing the services of 163 transit systems throughout the United States. The summary is based on a compilation of written reports, not a reanalysis of raw data. The surveys included were conducted during the eight years from 2008 through 2015. This report is divided into two parts. Part 1: Demographics includes information such as age of bus and rail riders, employment, gender, driver's licenses among bus and rail riders, and primary language. Part 2: Travel Characteristics includes information such as trip purpose, reasons for using public transit, days per week using transit, fare media, transfers, and duration using transit.
