Build, and they might cycle: A systematic literature review on the effect of separation, connectivity and percieved safety on bicycle use

Bygg, så sykler de kanskje: En litteraturstudie av betydningen av separering, sammenheng og trygghet for sykling

This report is a systematic literature review of the effects of separation, connectivity and perceived safety on bicycle use. More extensive separated bicycle facilities, larger degrees of separation from especially motorized traffic and a connected network of bicycle facilities without “holes” are found to be beneficial for the use of bicycle for transportation purposes. Separation from motorized traffic improves perceived safety, and especially so for anxious or inexperienced bicyclists. Thus, a greater extent of separated and connected bicycle facilities has a potential to increase the attractiveness of the bicycle for this group of cyclists in particular.
