The one for the only
Interstate 66 is a heavily traveled commuter thoroughfare, as it is the only interstate highway running east-west between Washington, DC and Northern Virginia. As such, ambitious improvements to relieve congestion have been overseen by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) over the years, including a four-phase improvement program recently completed to increase capacity and improve traffic flow on I-66 and Rte. 29 in western Prince William County. The culmination of these improvements was the completion of the I-66/Rte. 29/Linton Hall interchange and railroad grade separation project, which opened in 2015 and has resolved numerous congestion and safety issues. Details of these improvements, designed under design/build contract to VDOT, are presented in this article.
