New generation of turnouts promises to improve reliability and reduce costs

A range of modular and compact point machines which can be laid on top of slab track or concrete sleepers and in the center of the track gauge have been developed. These new machines require less maintenance and are more reliable than traditional point motors, as explained in this article. This comes at a time when railways globally are responding to growing demand by increasing capacity and service frequency, resulting in less time for infrastructure maintenance and inspections.
