Developing a suite of demand parameters for Inner Sydney public transport
Transport Performance and Analytics of Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has developed a public transport project model to forecast patronage from changes in public transport provision. Parameters describing how passengers respond to different aspects of their journey such as frequency, onboard time, vehicle quality, stop quality and fare are an important input into the model. The paper describes how a suite of parameters was developed through literature review and market research. The literature review identified parameter gaps and benchmark values. The market research involved three Stated Preference (SP) surveys and one rating survey of vehicle and stop quality. Altogether 6,710 passengers were surveyed by interview using computer tablets or by onboard self completion questionnaire.
