In regard of the importance of rail vehicle oscillation, methods for measuring and analysing of tractive stock dynamics are described. A mathematical model of the whole vehicle-track-system is investigated. The oscillations of this complex system which occur in service, are dealt with as a stochastic process. Some results of measurements and oscillation analysis with six types of tractive units are presented by example of the excited vehicle body of the electric locomotive, type ET-22.
