THE DESIGN OF ACOUSTIC SCREENS. PART 1: METHOD; PART 2: APPLICATION

ZUR BERECHNUNG VON SCHALLSCHIRMEN. TEIL I: VERFAHREN; TEIL II: ANWENDUNG DES VERFAHRENS

A method for the design of simple and complex acoustic screens is described with special reference to the use of electronic data processing. The method is based on fresnel zone construction and is compared with other design methods. The first part shows the derivation of the intensities which can be associated with each of the screen edges. In part two a spatial arrangement of obstacles is represented in one plane and the projections of the screens are considered as a whole. The projection onto the plane of reference is carried out in such a manner that the deviation of the noise at the edges of the panels is preserved. In addition methods are given for calculating the attenuation provided by buildings and vegetation, especially where non-permeable obstacles are present in the sound path. Further information concerns the calculation of the reflexions from any surface. /TRRL/
