RHEOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES IN TRIAXIAL COMPRESSION TESTS WITH A SLOW RATE OF LOAD APPLICATION

CARACTERIZACION REOLOGICA DE LAS MEZCLAS BITUMINOSAS EN ENSAYOS DE COMPRESION TRIAXIAL CON VELOCIDAD DE APLICACION DE CARGA LENTA

This study sets out to characterize the sensitivity of certain types of bituminous mixtures very much used in Spain, to deformations due to slow load applications. Amongst the tests carried out those involving triaxial compression applied at a constant rate of deformation with a variable temperature are particularly important. A large proportion of the research was carried out by applying loads similar to those of traffic in order to determine the moduli of rigidity values as a function of the temperature and the values of another series of parameters for the mechanical characterization of the deformability of the material. Furthermore, work was carried out under failure conditions in order to determine such parameters as the angle of internal friction and cohesion. The results obtained made it possible to establish criteria both for behaviour under slow loading and at different temperatures, of bituminous mixtures having distinct particle size distributions and degrees of compaction.
