UNDERWATER TUNNEL IN THE BAKAR

PODMORSKI TUNEL U BAKRU

An underwater tunnel, the first of its kind built in Yugoslavia, was completed recently in the Bay of Bakar. Considering the depth of the supporting soil and pile foundations, it represents a very unusual and highly sophisticated civil engineering project. The world's leading design technology required extreme accuracy in the course of construction, as well as a great deal of analysis of detail and modification to the site equipment. On successful completion, the inside of the tunnel proved to be entirely dry. /TRRL/
