Two sisterships, En Gedi and Avedat, intended for bulk cargo and for a carrying capability of about 33,000 tons dw, experienced severe afterbody vibration soon after delivery. In model tests, the wake distribution was measured with Pitot tubes and analysis showed that the wake had very high local values in the upper part of the propeller disk, and this was judged to be the main cause of the vibration problem. To improve the water flow through the propeller disk, the experimental tank designed flow accelerating fins to be placed on the stern above the propeller. Stern fins based upon the model tests were fitted to the ships, reducing vibration to an acceptable level.
