IMPROVED DRAINAGE AND FROST ACTION CRITERIA FOR NEW JERSEY PAVEMENT DESIGN. PHASE II (DATA ANALYSIS)

With the assistance of the Federal Highway Administration, the New Jersey Department of Transportation is studying the feasibility of including open-graded drainage layers in their highway pavements. Before constructing actual pavements with open-graded drainage layers, they chose to measure frost penetration depths and moisture content profiles beneath several pavements in New Jersey. Air and surface freezing indexes were measured at three locations during the 1975-1976 and 1976-1977 winters. (FHWA)
