Knowledge Management: A CEO’s Perspective
A state transportation agency, at its core, is a knowledge organization that specializes in transportation—therefore the way that knowledge is managed can determine an agency’s success or failure. In this article the Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation discusses institutional knowledge and important knowledge management practices. Also highlighted are results of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Project 20-68A, U.S. Domestic Scan Program investigating Advances in Transportation Agency Knowledge Management. Three programs studied in the scan are included in this article as examples of how knowledge management can advance a transportation organization and its employees. The programs come from Virginia Department of Transportation, Kraft Foods, and NASA.
