ANALYSIS OF EFFECTS OF SEVERAL SPECIFIED ALTERNATIVE AUTOMOBILE EMISSION CONTROL SCHEDULES UPON FUEL ECONOMY AND COSTS

The analysis compares the differential fuel economy and cost effects of several schedules for implementing more stringent automobile emission control standards. The analysis was prepared in response to a request by the Office of Management and Budget. It is based principally upon an analysis prepared for Congressman John Dingell by DOT, EPA, and FEA (April 8, 1976) which has been modified to reflect more current information, where possible. Both the DOT and EPA are currently conducting more extensive analyses that bear on this topic and which, when completed, may indicate a need to modify this analysis.
