THE FUEL CONSUMPTION OF AGRICULTURAL VEHICLES ON ROADS AND TRACKS

DER KRAFTSTOFFBEDARF IANDWIRTSCHAFTLICHER TRANSPORTE AUF STRASSEN UND WEGEN

The bases of the investigation were the conditions which apply to the testing and appraisal of agricultural vehicles by authorised testing stations subject to the OECD rules. Starting from the particular type of vehicle and the power requirements the influence of factors such as the degree of power utilisation, travelling in level or in hilly terrain, travelling fully loaded or empty, tractive effort and drivers on the fuel consumption are described and illustrated with diagrams. The fuel consumption of a tractor depends, other things (type of fuel, barometric pressure, operating temperature) being equal, on its operational conditions, in particular from the degree of utilisation of the available engine power. Finally there are guidelines for fuel-saving operation of agricultural transport on road and track.
