CONTRIBUTION TO THE ANALYSIS OF SYMMETRICAL DOUBLE-WEB TEE BEAMS WITH NORMAL AND SKEW RESTRAINT OF WARPING

The paper contains a method of analysis on the basis of elementary theory of structures and the auxiliary functions (relative variables) required for carrying out the computations in graphical and analytical form. The method allows consideration of the distortion of the cross-section and/or mixed torsion and the restraint of warping by transverse beams at the supports. The theory of warping torsion is used, the force method being extended and modified. Following a discussion of familiar methods of analysis there are worked examples on the basis of the theory of warping torsion, which provide the perturbation functions for solving the derived differential equation for beams with deformable cross-section subject to torsional loading. The forces and displacements at midspan and supports which are related to the appropriate values of the warping torsion are expressed in terms of two parameters. There are also compilations of displacements, loading functions, support rotations, warping functions, compatibility conditions, approximations for moments of inertia and stiffness ratios. A worked example serves to illustrate the method of solution. /TRRL/
