Biofrontiers: Responsible Innovation for Tomorrow's Liquid Fuels
The Biofrontiers project includes stakeholders from advanced low-carbon biofuel producers, environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs), technology developers, and research institutions with the aim of identifying the technical, economic and environmental issues associated with the development of advanced biofuels in Europe. The objective was to evaluate conditions under which biofuels could contribute to mitigating transport emissions and supply chains for low-carbon fuels might be developed sustainably. Sections of this study include: Transport and the opportunity for low-carbon liquid fuels; Assuring sustainability; The sustainably available resource; Balancing competing biomass demands; Driving investment; and Investing sustainably: an outline for regulatory sustainability principles. Recommendations for policy makers are also included.
