CABLE ANCHORAGE BOND IN PRETENSIONED PRESTRESSED CONCRETE

ANCRAGE PAR ADHERENCE DES TORONS DANS LES ABOUTS DES ELEMENTS EN BETON PRECONTRAINT PAR PRE-TENSION

The author presents a bibliographic study illustrating steel-concrete bond characteristics and showing the parameters affecting anchorage, the anchorage mechanism problem remaining to be solved. He reconsiders the problem and presents a test programme of direct measurement of deformation of the concrete and cable along their contact surface; the tests carried out allow interesting experimental results to be obtained, among which the most original are the following:- (1) presentation of a complete picture of the cable anchorage process and its penetration as a function of relaxation force, based on a forced measurement system and acoustic monitoring; (2) observation of the deformability of the transverse section of the cable and the formation of a plastic zone around the cable; (3) observation of the improvement in steel concrete bond due to rusting and to glueing as well as friction; (4) marked influence of strength and quality of concrete on anchorage and observation of the fact that one cycle of moderate steam curing has no influence; (5) verification of the validity of the relations proposed for the estimation of anchorage length; (6) accuracy of the distribution of prestressing in the transverse concrete section.
