Finite Element Simulation of the I10 / 215 Interchange Bridge near San Bernardino under Seismic Loads

The paper conducts the numerical analysis of l10 / 215 Interchange bridge model under the action of seismic kinematic base disturbances in the software package MSC Patran / Nastran. It investigates different aspect and problems arising from numerical model creation and results data validation with the real-scale object. The numerical model of the bridge was created in MSC Patran using the structural parameters, presented in a previous paper (A. Shakal and M. Huang, 1992). The input acceleration diagram for kinematic base excitation was taken also from that paper. Dynamic calculation results were compared with the data of measurement of vibration levels on the bridge during the passage of the seismic wave.
