Strengthening Our Foundation
The maritime community has been safely transporting liquefied gases over the waters of the world for over 50 years. These liquefied gases provide clean-burning fuel and feedstock to industrialized and developing regions. This article discusses how safety at all stages of transport is crucial because of the unique properties and hazards of liquefied gases. This safety-focused concept is not new to the liquefied gas industry. The International Safety Management (ISM) Code and similar U.S. domestic requirements require safety management systems (SMS) for all types of deep-draft international vessels and some domestic ships.
