LA Connections

In this article, the author examines the expansion programs and vehicle upgrades being executed by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in Los Angeles, California. L.A.’s Metro Rail, which consists of light rail transit and rapid transit, carries a weekday average of almost 350,000 riders. Among its expansion projects are a 6.6 mile Expo Line extension and the Regional Connector Transit Corridor below-ground light rail transit. Also highlighted is a new universal smartcard fare collection system called Transit Access Pass (TAP).
