THE EFFECT OF FARE REDUCTION ON TRANSIT RIDERSHIP IN THE ATLANTA REGION. SUMMARY REPORT NO. 2--ANALYSIS OF NON-TRANSIT USER DATA

This paper discusses the results of interviews of Fulton and Dekalb County, Georgia residents concerning ridership of the Atlanta Region Bus System. Nonusers of the bus system generally expressed a favorable opinion of the quality of service. However, it was found that public awareness of the fare reduction of 15 cents was quite low: although, it had been publicized for several months prior to the start of the survey. More than one-half of the new riders interviewed in the on-board survey stated that reduced fare was the reason they began riding the bus.
