USE OF RADIO-ISOTOPES IN STUDIES RELATING TO SOIL MECHANICS

The study for determining in-situ dry bulk density of soil by using radio-isotopes was continued. Investigations were undertaken with a soil of known consistency limits (Plasticity Index = 10.1 and sand content = 31.1 percent) compacted at optimum moisture (11.5 percent) to different dry bulk densities and the number of counts per minute on the scaler of the radio-isotope equipment at different densities was recorded to get a relationship between the dry bulk density and the number of counts at the same moisture content.
