THE CON-RO SHIP. CONCEPT, CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION

The parameters which were established for two "con-ro" ships, capable of handling containers by the Lo-Lo method and trailers or rolling stock via the Ro-Ro systems, and intended for the middle east trades are reviewed. The shipowner's viewpoint and the shipyard's contribution in the construction of a prototype ship are discussed. The slewing ramp and the cargo access equipment are described. The two ships have a length (LBP) of 178 m, a draught of 8.61 m, a speed of 20 knots, and two 9.495 hp engines. Order from NSFI as No. 17350.
