COMBINED MODEL OF DISTRIBUTION AND ALLOCATION FOR OPTIMIZATION OF A ROAD NETWORK

MODELLO COMBINATO DI DISTRIBUZIONE ED ASSEGNZAIONE PER L'OTTIMIZZAZIONE DI UNA RETE STRADALE

After stressing the necessity of considering the phases of distribution and allocation of displacements as inseparable moments of the process of planning, a combined model is formulated which sums up the objectives of the individual models. The interpretation of the objective function of the problem posed is made in terms of the accessibility of the localities and the efficiency of the network, which represent objectives generally pursued at different levels. Furthermore, the formulation of the combined problem makes it possible to handle in an homogeneous manner the two individual phases of the study, avoiding the incongruenties which appear every time the models of distribution and allotment are used in cascade. The problem can be considered from the point of view of mathematical programming as a problem of convex programming with linear bonds, having supposed that the cost function for the individual sections of the network is not linear as compared with the flow, and having assumed that the space distribution of the displacement is of the gravitational type with a cost function of the exponential type.
