Blue Power

While only about 3 percent of the nation's 80,000 dams are currently equipped to generate electricity, many of the non-powered dams have the potential to add hydropower, as a way of promoting sustainable energy production. Furthermore, existing powered dams could generate even more hydroelectric energy by being upgraded. By adding generating equipment to the 100 nonpowered dams that have the greatest potential, enough energy could be produced to power nearly three million more homes and create thousands of jobs. This article takes a look at various projects throughout the United States that are being considered for or are undergoing the addition of hydropower.
