Coated Sponges Could Help Remediate Oil Spills by Absorbing Oil but Not Water

Researchers have discovered a low-cost, low-energy, and highly effective method for removing oil from water by immersing a melamine sponge in polydimethylsiloxane. The simple and inexpensive process can be replicated on almost any scale, and the sponges can be wrung out and reused several times before replacement is necessary.
