TRIPOD STRUCTURES IN FAST CURRENTS

The article deals with strong currents that can be a major difficulty in marine construction, particularly in causing oscillations and describes a solution, consisting of driving piles in tripod formation. Design concept in which all the piles for the various structures would be driven in groups of three from a working platform and connected at the top to form stable tripods is presented. Vortex spoilers in the form of perforated shrouds and radial fins were also tested. The two tripods were interconnected by a rigid wooden deck to which masses could be attached to simulate more closely a completed structure.
