Fine tuning of the tamping action

For decades, Plasser & Theurer has followed the principle of 'Improving well-proven components - developing new technologies'. In particular, this is true for tamping technology, the core competence of this company based in Linz. To satisfy the customers' increasing requirements, targeted further developments of the tamping units have been implemented. As a result, performance, reliability and user friendliness of the tamping machines have been further increased in recent years. In this context, particular emphasis has to be placed on the 'speed control for wear optimisation'. This technique, based on well-proven components, enables adjusting the frequency of the squeeze movement of the tamping tine repeatedly during tamping. As a result, the tamping tine can penetrate even highly compacted ballast beds and the track geometry can be further improved during squeezing.
