Moving Crude Oil Safely by Rail

This document looks at the steps U.S. railroads have taken to ensure the safety of crude oil transportation. Topics discussed include the installation of "hot box" detectors, speed restrictions, train braking innovations, emergency response, and increased federal tank car safety and design standards. This document also looks at electronically controlled pneumatic brakes (ECP) brakes and argues that these brakes would add little to improve stopping capability.
