This article discusses comprehensive plans being adopted and executed in cities across the United States as part of the American Planning Association's Sustaining Places Initiative. In addition to addressing traditional issues, many of these plans are focused on new topics including sustainability; social equity, energy, climate change and adaptation. The authors highlight comprehensive plans being implemented in Portland, Oregon, Boulder, Colorado, and Fort Collins, Colorado, and they offer six foundations for community resilience.
