Career Fire Fighter Struck and Killed While Working a Crash Scene on Ice-Covered Interstate Overpass - the NIOSH Report
This article presents the findings from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) report on an accident involving a male career fire fighter who was struck by a vehicle while working a crash scene. The accident took place on February 10, 2014. The victim was struck while working on an ice-covered overpass and fell 56 feet onto an underpass below. The article describes the fire department involved in the incident; the victim's training and experience; the crash investigation; contributing factors to the accident; and causes of death. The report offers a number of recommendations for emergency responders involved in similar incidents.
