DRIVERS, TRAINING AND TRAFFIC SAFETY

BILFOERERE, OPPLAERING OG TRAFIKKSIKKERHET

By examining driver behaviour in detail it is seen that the safety problem is not limited to a small group of accident prone persons. A driver who wishes to avoid accidents has at any time to keep a certain safety margin. This goes for demands on speed and position on the road, adjusted to the relation to other travellers, as well as to the physical environment. One can calculate the safety margins for selected traffic situations and compare them with real driving. Examinations have shown that many drivers disregard reasonable demands for safe driving. This is the second article about drivers and traffic safety. /TRRL/
