The influence on marine lubricant trends by future diesel engine developments, the economics of engine maintenance and the effects of reductions in ship's staff are discussed. The main future change with regard to crosshead engine lubrcation will be a continuing reduction of system oil. Vaporization as a result of higher temperatures and thinner oil films, because of higher pressures is considered. Medium speed engines are dealt with. Order from NSFI as No. 17459.
