CHOICE OF DESTINATION AND TRANSPORT MODE AT SHOPPING TRIPS. INDIVIDUALS NOT HAVING ACCESS TO A CAR

VAL AV RESMAAL OCH FAERDSAETT VID INKOEPSRESOR. INDIVIDER SOM INTE HAR TILLGAANG TILL BIL

The aim of the report was to study the choice situation of individuals not having a car at their disposal. Studied choice situations were the coincident choice of destination and transport mode in shopping trips. A so called logit model was used. Data were collected from a questionnaire sent to 2500 subjects of which 327 were non car owners. This group consisted more of women, people with lower incomes, older people and smaller households than the group of car owners. Model tests were performed for non car owners and the total group. Four alternatives for non car owners were studied: (a)- free charge on all buses, (b)- reduction of bus journey time by 20 per cent, (c)-(a) and (b) together and (d)- double charge on all buses. The logit model has proved useful in the following cases: calculation of parking demand, analysis of effects of changed traffic policy, cost-benefit analysis and calculation of effects of changed shop structure. /TRRL/
