The article reviews the development of computer-based electronic machines which can automate some or all of the radar procedures used in collision avoidance. It further discusses how the need for accuracy of inputs has caused marine systems designers to discover certain discrepancies in the requirements for data inputs that seem rooted in the theory of radar plotting itself. The paper examines the possible origin and nature of those discrepancies. Order from NSFI as No. 17507.
