ESTIMATION OF DYNAMIC PROPRETIES OF STRUCTURES AND SOILS

The paper outlines a new approach, based on power spectral density analysis, to the determination of period and damping values of structures an soils from records of their response to random excitation, for example by wind or earthquakes. The approach is based on the computation of the first three moments (area, first and second moment) of the estimated response power spectral density in a frequency band which includes the fundamental frequency. /TRRL/
