Utah surveys the savings

Asset management at the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) involves identifying necessary maintenance for 16,000 lane miles of highway. Monitoring the condition of the road is done with vehicle-mounted surveying, though structures and other infrastructure often require manual inspection. The surveys provide data which is analyzed to prioritize maintenance tasks. UDOT has expanded the capability of the vehicle-mounted survey in order to include above-ground infrastructure such as road signs and gantries. The data compiled from surveys has been used to make the system more efficient and cost-effective.
