THE FATIGUE BEHAVIOUR OF STUD SHEAR CONNECTORS UNDER ROTATING SHEAR

The interface shear connexion in steel-concrete composite plates may be subjected, by the passage of wheel loads, to either uniaxial shear forces or shear forces which vary in direction as well as in magnitude. Individual headed studs have been tested in fatigue under the latter form of loading . The life of a stud under the most severe form of rotating shear can be as little as one tenth of the life of a stud subjected to the same load in uniaxial shear. The results obtained are used to formulate a simple method for designing the shear connectors against fatigue. /Author/
