Job Story: Cold Mix and Collaboration

This article uses a case study of the Truxton-Tully Road project in Cortland County, New York, to show how the new pavement management strategy of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is implemented in real life. The pavement management system has four components: preservation first; system not projects; maximize return on investments; and make it sustainable. The author then describes the Truxton-Tully Road project and how the project managers decided to use cold mix paving to help comply with the pavement management strategy. Using cold mix paving helped with cost-cutting and the project came in according to budget and qualifying for the support of federal funding.
