In-depth reclamation? States need to do more to assure FDR quality

In order to have a successful full-depth reclamation (FDR) project, proper design work, a good construction specification, proper construction quality control, and performance feedback are necessary. This article presents seven steps to follow for success, based on experience in Texas. These are as follows: (1) evaluate project history; (2) characterize the existing pavement structure with non-destructive tests; (3) verify the pavement structure and obtain material samples; (4) perform mixture design; (5) perform pavement design; (6) perform construction quality control; and (7) conduct performance review and feedback. Further elaboration on these steps is provided.
