TIME-DOMAIN ANALYSIS OF ULTRASONIC PULSE DIFFRACTION FOR DEFECT CHARACTERIZATION

A method for determining defect size in ultrasonic pulse-echo testing through analysis of sound diffracted by the defect is described. This method is similar to ultrasonic spectroscopy except that the data are obtained in the time domain (A-scan) without the need for spectrum analysis equipment. Time-domain measurements also yield advantages in resolution and data interpretation. /Author/
