Short-term compression and splitting tensile tests were carried out on light-weight concrete containing crushed yeong (a king of lightweight aggregate). Two types of lightweight concrete were used: one containing natural sand and lightweight fines, the other natural sand only. The strength and deformation characteristics of the concrete, aggregates and mortar were determined, and the relation between the phase characteristics and the properties of lightweight concrete as a two-phase material under uniaxial compression was investigated. The behaviour of lightweight aggregate-mortar interface under shear-compression and shear-tension was also studied, using two types of aggregates (yeong and brick).
