STUDY OF THE SHRINKAGE AND CREEP DEFORMATIONS OF A CANTILEVER PRESTRESSED CONCRETE BRIDGE

ETUDE DU RETRAIT ET DES DEFORMATIONS DE FLUAGE DANS UN PONT EN BETON PRECONTRAINT CONSTRUIT PAR ENCORBELLEMENT

The AI Paris-Lille Motorway spans the Oise river by means of a bridge comprising two parallel decks, each consisting of a 82.5M central span. This box girder span was built by the cantilever method. Strain measurements were made during construction and after the opening of the structure to traffic. The main results of these measurements are presented in this article together with the method used to interpret the results. Attention is drain to the unreliability of SCME of the results due to the behavior of the materials and prestressing efforts. The 1970 F.I.P-C.E.B. recommendations give a simplified description of creep and shrinkage phenomena; the application of these rules explains all measurement results at each stage of construction. /TRRL/
