RESEARCH EQUIPMENT IN THE FIELD OF VIBRATORY COMPACTION: THE VIBREX

UN MATERIEL DE RECHERCHE DANS LE DOMAINE DU COMPACTAGE PAR VIBRATION: LE VIBREX

With existing vibratory rollers, it is difficult to evaluate which vibration parameters influence a given compaction result. In order to investigate the effect of frequency, amplitude acceleration, the distribution and values of vibratory and "suspended" masses, the centrifugal force/static weight ratio, etc., an experimental machine was designed in which the main parameters which characterize a vibrating roller could be varied. The vibrex was designed by the firm Alberet within the framework of an agreement with "Laboratories des Ponts et Chaussees". It is a single eccentrically weighted shaft self propelled roller, the main characteristics of which are presented in tabular form. Tests will be conducted in a test pit in Rouen. The main variables controlled will be the force absorbed by the vibration, number of revolutions of the eccentric shaft, horiztonal and vertical amplitude of the ball and suspended mass, dephasing in time between the geometrical position of the eccentric shaft and the vertical extension of the ball, and the traversing velocity of the machine. /TRRL/
