RESEARCH ON THE INFLUENCE OF THE STRUCTURE OF HARDENED CEMENT PASTE ON ITS RESISTANCE TO FROST

The frost resistance of hardened cement paste is conditioned for r the greater part by its structure. Pores and capillaries (from 0, 1 to 1 micron) form one of the main constructional defects of hardened cement paste and decrease its resistance to frost. A study is made of the influence of different parameters (mineralogical composition of cement, hardening conditions, water/cement ratio) on the resistance of hardened cement paste to frost. It is shown that the effect of the mineralogical composites of cement (mainly C3A) on the frost resistance is directly linked with hardening conditions and is determined by the structure of cement paste pores. /TRRL/
