Ukraine moves to expand ITS

Highway crashes in Ukraine have increased in recent years, and the government is considering a major expansion of its intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in order to improve safety. Automobile usage is growing, and the existing traffic control systems need to be upgraded. An initiative to implement ITS was planned in 2008 but had to be put on hold due to lack of funding. The new plan for ITS will include a single traffic control center for highways, rail, and public transit. The new ITS installation will reduce fuel consumption and improve the response time of emergency services. The project will receive funding from the government as well as private investors.
